New technician support for student media projects
A new pre-checkout workflow feature launching this summer in the connect2 media booking solution gives added support to technicians preparing kit for film shoots and video productions. The new functionality enables staff to scan all equipment items for a project in preparation for checkout. When the user arrives, a single click checks out all items instantly. In an academic environment, this allows technicians to prepare bookings in advance of students arriving to collect them, which can often amount to 50+ items at a time. It will be showcased for the first time at the BVE media show this month.
Anna Crilly, Managing Director at Lorensbergs, creators of the connect2 software, says: “Our technician customers in universities are under constant pressure to issue media equipment quickly for student use. On film and multimedia courses, this often involves large quantities of specialised equipment. The new pre-checkout feature ensures that the kit is in good shape and ready to go before the student has even arrived.”
Connect2 already facilitates multiple item bookings which helps in planning and coordinating equipment use for larger scale undergraduate projects. As well as saving valuable technician time, it supports tutors in understanding which equipment was utilised in a project, if it was used within the scheduled time, and its condition upon return. This data helps when grading students’ professional and technical competencies.
The new pre-checkout workflow feature in the connect2 resource booking software supports further time-savings for all involved in education equipment management. It has been developed in response to connect2 customer demand, with over 70 higher education institutions represented in the customer base.
The annual BVE show provides the ideal environment to first demonstrate the new functionality, with both academic technicians and faculty represented in the show’s audience. Connect2 will be available for demos at the show on February 27 - Mar 1 on Lorensbergs' stand Q15.
