Progressing the digital offer in libraries with support for Windows 10
Lorensbergs is pleased to announce support for Windows 10 in its leading PC booking and session management software, netloan. This enables libraries to offer the latest operating system on their People’s Network of computers, updating one of their most popular and relied on resources.
Some library authorities are beginning to move to Windows 10 as part of refreshing their computer network. Projects introducing new operating systems encourage increased use of library facilities by offering a more modern service. In particular Windows 10 is being welcomed for its updated technology while continuing a familiar user experience from Windows 7 and XP.
With both a desktop and tablet mode Windows 10 also supports libraries in providing a consistent experience across a range of devices, including PC terminals, touchscreens and Microsoft tablets. By offering a combination of technologies, libraries are able to develop their digital offer to serve and attract a wider demographic of users.
Lorensbergs’ Managing Director, Anna Crilly, commented: “Libraries provide essential resources to communities, supporting digital inclusion for everyone’s social and economic wellbeing. PC provision is a core part of the library’s digital offer, with approximately 40,000 public access library computers relied on throughout the UK.
“The large majority of netloan customers, representing 70% of library PCs, report stable or increasing demand for PC sessions in their library branches. Investment in the latest technology within a modern and safe environment contributes to maintaining library spaces as important focal points in progressive and thriving communities.”
Recently as many as 20% of households were seen to be without broadband provision or facilities, and at a time when so much requires internet access in order to participate and progress. Lorensbergs is dedicated to supporting libraries in providing modern and compelling services for their users.
