From tendering to going live in under 70 working days!
For Richmond upon Thames Libraries, it’s been a very productive first half to 2015. Initial careful planning and process following has led to a roll out of new computers across its 12 library branches in an extremely fast turnaround time. We’re looking at how sound IT planning, the availability of a hosted netloan PC booking solution and close partnership working made this project such a rapid success!
When Richmond decided to tender for their PC reservation system one of their aims was to ensure that the new system could be hosted to reduce total cost of ownership. Lorensbergs' hosted netloan offering was able to meet this requirement. The hosting package also helped to speed up the project - it included the procurement of the server and the project managing of the entire installation process. With the server being supplied by Lorensbergs, Richmond didn't have to procure and commission a new server for netloan, nor did they need to find their own instance of Microsoft SQL Server to hold the database, freeing IT time to work on other projects.
Once the tender was awarded, Lorensbergs was able to present a staged project plan with projected completion dates that covered the setup of the hosted server, the connection between the hosted server and Richmond's network, and the configuration and testing of the clients and printing from a site in Richmond. Just 21 working days after the plan was presented, the final training to staff was performed by a Lorensbergs’ engineer. The following day the first ten computers went live to the public, less than 70 working days from publication of the tender notice. Three weeks later and 126 PCs across 12 library sites were live with netloan PC booking and session management.
