“Quite fascinating”, “Most useful”, “Helpful and timely” are some of the comments that have been received on our whitepaper. We’re delighted that the research has proved so worthwhile!
We’re also amazed at the pace of change since it was carried out a few short months ago, with the trend towards centralising library ICT management at the corporate council level continuing for further customer library authorities. We hope this makes the findings all the more relevant, as libraries work with council ICT colleagues to find the best way forward for organising and maintaining their technology arrangements.
Particular interest has been the move to thin client for some libraries’ public access PCs. For others, it’s been the move to VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure). Also, the need to offer wireless printing, which is said to be “a huge area of demand for libraries”.
Perhaps, while highlighting the ongoing challenges for libraries, the findings in the whitepaper can be best summed up as described by one of our netloan customers:
“I have to say that the message from this paper is that libraries are very resilient and will still be playing a major part in people’s lives for a long time to come.”
