This year’s Libraries Week is just around the corner (7 – 12 October), and with a digital theme this year, we’re delighted to publish our new A to Z of Library Digital Services.
Thanks to Libraries Week and it's organisers, we’d been given a very effective deadline for pulling this together – just what was needed when gathering the content from years of research and conversations with our library customers.
The A-Z aims to cover the wide range of online resources and assisted digital services that our public libraries collectively provide, along with the computers, equipment, gadgets and know how that so many rely on and hugely benefit from. Many services are already widely known about, others less so; all are definitely worth highlighting and publicising.
So roll on Libraries Week, and the opportunity it gives to celebrate all our libraries have to offer in the digital sphere. With our libraries and their staff there to support us, we all have the chance to develop and progress our digital skills and knowledge. Whatever your circumstances, digital inclusion is in reach simply by dropping into your local branch.
In addition to the A-Z, further information and ideas on how libraries facilitate digital participation and skills attainment will be available on this blog each day in the week ahead. The aim is to inform, inspire and support preparation in the lead up to the actual week itself. The blogs will cover some of the key elements featured in the A-Z, including:
We hope you enjoy using the A-Z, that it’s helpful in raising the profile of library digital services, and that it serves as a source of inspiration before, during and beyond Libraries Week. It’s available in two formats. Provided below, the infographic is ideal for websites and social media sharing. If you would like to print a copy off for your library or office wall, it’s also available here in poster format.
Lorensbergs will be distributing printed copies of the A-Z poster at the annual PMLG Conference on 4 October. Maybe see you there?!
