Surrey Libraries appoints Lorensbergs for key software to modernise services
Surrey Library Service has announced the appointment of Lorensbergs for the supply of netloan computer and print management software across its estate of 52 libraries. The new netloan system will make the public computers more accessible for library users, easier for library staff to manage and simpler for all to print.
This forms a central part of Surrey’s transformation project to develop modern libraries by investing in and promoting new technologies to improve access to services for the benefit of residents.
The introduction of netloan includes roll out on the library’s estate of self-service bibliotheca kiosks, enabling users to make their own print payments and book computer sessions. A wireless printing solution, netloan Wi-Fi print, will also enable users to print from their smartphones, tablets and laptops to library printers. This is expected to be extremely popular when it’s launched later this year, as use of Wi-Fi has trebled in Surrey’s libraries in recent years.
Both computers and Wi-Fi represent fundamental infrastructure to their communities, supporting individuals and local businesses with access to information and resources. The investment in the new terminals and software coincides with greater need, helping to meet the economic challenges caused by the pandemic. Jobseekers, new startups and entrepreneurs will be among those benefiting the most from the new set up.
Sue Wills, Assistant Director for Culture, Libraries & Registration at Surrey commented “Being central to council strategy, libraries serve as the council’s front door. With netloan we’ll be able to raise our service standards, bring greater accessibility and a more modern experience to all who need us. It’s key to our ambition to be a forward-looking, nationally recognised, authority of excellence.”
Anna Crilly, Managing Director of Lorensbergs said: “Surrey’s investment in libraries is a major boost to their local communities. It also signifies a profound belief in the spirit of the People’s Network, which enables anyone to pop into their local library and use a computer to get online without cost and with a warm welcome. We are delighted to be supplying Surrey Libraries with netloan – the software that continues to make this possible. We also look forward to modernising their print services and supporting their staff with a first-rate solution.”
